X_X What an exhausting trip! I'll be getting to all the dA activity now; 500 messages and 1100 devs. Impressive XD
Before I do that, some quick highlights:
Siggraph is a lot different from Comic-com, that's for sure. Being '
The people at Insomniac are great, really friendly. They also seem to attract an amazing number of people who are really skilled. While I was there I saw someone who'd worked on Spider-Man 3 and a concept artist at EA apply for jobs. Both looked preeetty talented.
Saw the dA booth while I was there. Mostly looked like young people checking their dAs and that's about it. None of the older people were getting anywhere near it. That said...
During the User-Generated Content panel I was surprised by how savvy the devs were. One of them even mentioned the dA booth as an example of a fan community creating work, although I somehow don't think that's the image dA was trying to foster. *snerk*
They also talked about LittleBigPlanet, Spore, Line Rider, Gamefaqs, NWN's mmo servers, people who sell models for MS Flight Simluator, and all sorts of other things I wouldn't expect them to be aware of. If you're involved in a fan project for a game, you can be pretty confident that the developers know about you. XD
Got to see the making-of Glago's Guest (a new short by Disney, to be attached to Bolt) and the making-of Presto (the short attached to Wall-E.) Brilliant stuff. Getting an eye into Pixar is always amazing.
Saw John Lasseter live. It's funny how little of an ego he has. He was sort of passively arguing with the other guy on stage because they both were saying they were inspired by the other person.
Went to the FJORG! 32 hour animation marathon, which was awesome. All the teams were great, and if it weren't for the no-sleep thing I would probably be signing up for next year already. The entries are all up on the siggraph 2008 website, if you wanna google it and watch them.
All in all, fun trip. Now, on to those messages! XD
