Artist's Comments

I got myself four markers today to try them out. Never tried nondigital coloring before.

What I learned:
1: Markers are fun.
2: I have no idea how to use them.

In case you're wondering what's with the style, I was playing with facial styles today for the heck of it.

Edit: Oh yeah. Original drawings was in pen since I lost my mechpencil. That's why it's so messy.

See it in these eyes...
Feel it against my skin...

I'll act...just so at least,
You, will think I am still real.

Well if it was your first try with markers, it isn't bad at all! You even managed to do a bit of shading :D
Maybe you just need to work on avoiding the overlapping-strokes-effect.

BTW I heard from Lomgren you were a bit sick: feeling better?

I hate people as a whole and like them individually. Will be joining the masses today or will you be yourself?

Um I believe it strongly depends on the type of markers... the trick should be to colour areas quickly and all at once, without going over the same places - but this is not always possible, and some markers dry very quickly so the stripes always show up whatever you do. I have a very personal trick to share though, albeit very time-wasting: some time ago when I did traditional colouring, I made flat colours with coloured pencils or crayons, and shading with markers. Which is good, because the pencils form a sort of waxy layer above the paper: this way the markers dry slowly, the stripes do not appear (yay), and you can even smudge the marker with your fingers to give it a soft shading look ^^
It's a strategy, but it doesn't look very good unless you're using high quality pencils and markers ("high quality" as in "quality and not-weird colours"), and if requires a lot of time and patience.
